‘Buy From a Black Woman’ pop-up event to make stop in

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Supporting female entrepreneurship in the Black community is the goal of a nonprofit organization called Buy From A Black Woman. The founder of the organization is preparing to bring her message to Milwaukee this weekend.

A pop-up shop featuring five vendors who are Black female business owners is coming to H&M Bayshore on Sunday. Nikki Porcher founded Buy From a Black Woman in 2016 after she says she noticed a lack of support and awareness for businesses owned by Black women.

She started blogging about it. Now, her organization helps hundreds of businesses connect with consumers across the country.

The organization also provides support and resources for the businesses they partner with. “We have an educational program; we have financial support and one of our popular things is our online directory that lists businesses owned and operated by Black women business owners,” said Porcher.

Porcher says it’s important to highlight Black female entrepreneurs because historically many are overlooked. To spread the word, she’s been touring across the country with her pop-up shops and Milwaukee is the next stop.

“Let’s go to a place where we know we have so many Black women there, Black women businesses and people who want to support,” she said.

One of the vendors who will be part of the next pop-up shop is The Pink Bakery, a locally owned and operated company selling gluten and allergen free baking products. “

When we found out we were going to Milwaukee, we wanted to make sure we had a local vendor represented there for our introduction,” said Porcher.

Other vendors part of the event will be Flyest Tea Co., Taupe Coat, Dejha B Coloring and Lizzie’s All-Natural Products. Products range from hair care, wellness, stationary and more.

Porcher says she’ll keep pushing for her partners to get the recognition they deserve. The pop-up shop will take place on July 24 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at H&M Bayshore Town Center.

The Inspire Tour will continue, stopping in 12 other cities across the country. H&M reps say they are committed to supporting economic participation and growth of Black women and their businesses.
